Friday Cocktail- Strawberry Basil Margarita

I thought I’d stick with Margarita’s this week. They easy to make and perfect for entertaining. This week it’s a Strawberry Basil Margarita.

makes 1 pitcher, or about 8 servings

1 can frozen limeade concentrate
10 strawberries (or 12 if you’re using smaller ones from the farmer’s market or your backyard.)
8 basil leaves
2 to 2 1/2 cups tequila (gold or silver)

Empty the limeade concentrate into a pitcher. Add 2 1/2 cans of water and  2 1/4 cups of tequila (or a bit less, if you don’t want your drinks to be quite as strong).

Hull the strawberries, slice lengthwise, and add to the pitcher. Crumple the basil a little in your hands (this will help the basil flavor release into the drink) and add it to the pitcher, too. Place the pitcher, covered, in the fridge overnight, or for at least four hours.

Weekend Cocktails- Watermelon Margarita

Yay it’s the weekend! After this crazy week, it’s more than gladly welcomed. I’ve decided to post a weekly Friday cocktail recipe. I love making cocktails! This also gives me a way to discover some new fun ones. The first cocktail to make the cut is the Watermelon Margarita.

I love Margarita’s! [Ok, I pretty much love anything with Tequila in] and I love watermelon, so really, this cocktail can’t go wrong.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
3 wide strips orange zest
12 ounces [35o grams] watermelon cubes (about 2 cups)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice

2/3 cup white or silver tequila

1/4 cup Triple Sec

Lime wedges

In a small saucepan, bring sugar, water, and orange zest to a boil over high. Reduce to a simmer and cook until sugar dissolves, 3 minutes. Let syrup cool in a bowl.

In a blender, puree watermelon cubes until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on solids, into a pitcher (you should have about 1 cup juice).

Stir in syrup, lime juice, tequila, and Triple Sec. Fill salt-rimmed glasses with ice, then pour margarita mixture over top. Garnish with lime wedges.

Unfortunately due to a month long alcohol detox I won’t be able to try it out this weekend, but it’s definitely one of the first I’ll be trying when the detox is done. It looks and sounds fabulous! If you do try it, let me know how it turns out. 🙂
